Short answer

Do stand materials actually get recycled?

Some of it is and some of it is not, and the difference comes from how things are joined rather than what they are called. An aluminium profile is a single material once unbolted, and it is collected. A timber panel that has been painted, laminated and had print bonded onto it has become a composite; because it cannot be separated, it goes to mixed waste. So the recycling decision is made at the drawing board, not beside the skip. The question to ask is simple: after dismantling, how many parts does this surface come apart into?
