Stand type

Double Decker exhibition stands

We recommend a double decker stand when you want a second floor on top of the square metres you are paying the organiser for, and the hall allows it. A closed meeting room or guest lounge upstairs, products and reception downstairs: on the same plot the conversations move away from the crowd and the stand is visible above the aisle. Below 60 square metres the staircase and the structure take up too much of the floor, so we do not recommend the type there; we work up to 600 square metres.

How we produce it

Unlike the other types, a double decker begins with the structural calculation. The load-bearing frame is steel or reinforced timber; the upper floor deck, the balustrade and the staircase are fixed to it. The outer surfaces are produced in our own workshop in Beylikdüzü in the same way as a custom timber build: uninterrupted surfaces, backlit logo and printed walls.

Most exhibition venues ask for a separate approval file for a two-storey stand: the structural report, staircase dimensions, balustrade height and the load on the upper floor. We prepare that file and run the correspondence with the hall management. Production does not start before the approval comes back, which is why this is the type that needs the earliest start in the calendar.

A week before the fair the frame is assembled in the workshop, the upper floor is walked, the balustrade and stairs are tested and the lighting is checked. The build in the hall takes 4 to 8 days; our own crew builds and dismantles.

Where we have used it

Some of the stands we have built at this scale: the Emintosun stand at LIGNA 2025 in Hanover, 182 square metres; the GMS stand at bauma 2025 in Munich, 153 square metres; the Solinved stand at SolarEX 2025 in Istanbul, 110 square metres; and the Cemer Kent Ekipmanları stand at FSB Cologne, 105 square metres. The same approach to structure and surface applies to a two-storey job. Send us your floor area and we will draw the single-storey and the double decker option on the same plan.

What we pay attention to

  • Height: the total height of the stand is drawn to the hall limit; the ceiling height upstairs and the balustrade dimension are written into the technical file.
  • Load: the number of people going upstairs and the weight of the furniture are inputs to the structural calculation, and the limit the hall allows is marked on the plan.
  • Staircase: width and step dimensions follow the hall rule, and the stairs are placed in a corner so they do not eat into the meeting area.
  • Lighting and power: upstairs and downstairs run on separate circuits, and the cabling passes inside the structure.
  • Build calendar: if the hall's build days are not enough we request early access from the organiser ourselves.

Double Decker: cities we have built in

We produce this type in the same workshop for fairs in Istanbul, Ankara, İzmir and the German venues and build it in the hall with our own crew; the cities we serve are listed on the locations page.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Bespoke design
  • Freedom in material and detail
  • High visual impact

Cons

  • Longer production time
  • Costs more than system stands

Stands we have built

We have not published a project under this heading yet; these three stands from other fairs show the work of our workshop.

Frequently asked

What floor areas do you build a Double Decker stand for?
We work in the 60-600 m² range, and 0 published projects on this site are of this type. What decides the layout is not the area but how many sides are open and what you want to show on the walls; we use the same system on a small corner stand and on an island in the middle of the hall.
How long does a Double Decker stand take to build?
The build in the hall takes 4-8 days; the schedule of the hall matters as much as the size of the stand. Our own crew does the build, and we take the dismantle at closing too.
How does the process work for a Double Decker stand?
We start with the floor area, the open sides and the fair date, then draw the design. Once it is approved the stand is produced in the workshop and built in the hall to the fair calendar; at closing, our crew dismantles it.
Do we need the hall's permission for a double decker?
In most halls, yes. We prepare the file with the structural report, the staircase and balustrade dimensions and the upper floor load, and we send it to the hall management. Production does not begin until the approval is in.
What can go upstairs?
A closed meeting room, a guest lounge, a small kitchen or a rest area for your team. The number of people going up and the furniture are agreed at the design stage, and the structural calculation is made accordingly.
When should we start on a double decker stand?
Our standard schedule is 8 weeks; because the hall approval sits in the middle of it, we advise against going below that for a two-storey stand. Put the fair name, dates, floor area and number of open sides into the quote form and we reply within 48 hours.
Do you take double decker stands abroad?
We do. The structural parts are crated and numbered; freight, the ATA Carnet and customs are handled by us. At German fairs our Aachen office gives local support on the German side.
