How to read a venue technical manual

Short answer

What do you read first in a technical manual?

Five clauses: maximum stand height, how the wall facing the neighbour must be finished, the fire class of the materials, whether rigging is allowed, and the floor loading limit. Design without those five and the drawing can be rejected. The manual also lists which items need written approval in advance; those deadlines usually fall weeks before the show, and missing them attracts a surcharge.
